A 1,400-hectare port area driving economic development

Stretching nearly 100 kilometres along the Rhine, from Marckolsheim in the south to Lauterbourg in the north, the Strasbourg Ports cover approximately 1,400 hectares. Together, they form a network of industrial and logistics zones that are home to nearly 500 companies and around 10,000 direct jobs.

The port area is one of the Grand Est region’s major economic centres. Businesses from a wide range of sectors have chosen to locate here, including logistics, agri-food, chemicals, metallurgy, automotive, energy and port handling services.

Companies operating across the various sites include Rhine Europe Terminals (RET), the port’s container terminal operator, as well as numerous international industrial and logistics firms that benefit from direct access to rail, inland waterway and road infrastructure.

Companies located within the port area enjoy direct access via the Rhine to Europe’s major seaports, including Rotterdam, Antwerp-Zeebrugge and Amsterdam. Regular rail services also connect Strasbourg to Le Havre, Marseille and Dunkirk. In total, seventeen weekly rail shuttles link Strasbourg with Europe’s main maritime gateways.

The port operates three container terminals, high-performance loading and unloading facilities, and an internal rail network designed to streamline logistics flows while reducing the carbon footprint of transport operations.

In 2025, nearly 6.8 million tonnes of goods were handled through Strasbourg’s port platforms, underlining their central role in trade between Alsace and international markets.
