Amazon confirms a brand new logistics facility in Alsace

Amazon has confirmed a major logistics investment in Ensisheim, in the Haut-Rhin department, with the construction of a state-of-the-art distribution center. The facility is scheduled to begin operations at the end of 2027.

Located within the Plaine d’Alsace business park on a 16-hectare site, the building will offer around 180,000 m² of total floor space across several levels. In terms of size, it will be among Amazon’s largest distribution centers in Europe.

The project represents an investment of more than €250 million and will result in the creation of 2,000 permanent positions across a wide range of qualification levels, while also generating economic benefits for local businesses.

A high-intensity, structuring logistics operation

The site will be dedicated to preparing and shipping orders for the French market and for neighboring countries. Operations will run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the capacity to process several hundred thousand parcels daily. Logistics flows will be continuous, supported by a high daily rotation of transport vehicles.

Designed in line with the group’s latest standards, the facility will incorporate advanced robotic technologies to assist employees in order preparation and to optimize logistics processes.

The platform will strengthen Amazon’s logistics network in eastern France and help bring products closer to key consumption areas, reducing delivery times across a service area that will also include Germany and Switzerland.

2,000 permanent positions to be created by 2027

Amazon has announced the creation of 2,000 permanent jobs when the site becomes operational at the end of 2027. Recruitment is expected to begin during 2027 and will target a broad range of profiles.

Around 90% of positions will be open to candidates without formal qualifications, with training provided internally, primarily for logistics agent roles. Skilled positions will cover maintenance, management, human resources and support functions. Starting salaries are expected to exceed €2,000 gross per month, with opportunities for career progression and continuous training.

The local Employer Brand Bien en Alsace will support the recruitment campaign, promoting Alsace as a region offering career opportunities, skills development and quality of life, and enhancing the attractiveness of the roles on offer.

A growth driver for local companies

Beyond direct job creation, the project represents a significant economic driver for local and regional companies. Construction, maintenance, transport, service provision and subcontracting activities are expected to generate substantial benefits for many Alsatian SMEs.

In addition, numerous companies in the Grand Est region already use the Amazon marketplace to expand their sales in France and abroad, leveraging an efficient logistics infrastructure to access new markets.

Alsace as a European logistics hub

The decision to locate the site in Ensisheim highlights Alsace’s central role within the European economic area. The region benefits from a well-structured road network with direct access to major north-south and east-west corridors, as well as strategic river transport via the Rhine, one of Europe’s main logistics arteries.

This combination of road, river and intermodal infrastructure ensures efficient access to European and global markets, strengthening Alsace’s appeal to logistics and industrial players.

Through its scale, its impact on local employment and its integration within a historically industrial region undergoing transition, the Amazon project in Ensisheim once again demonstrates Alsace’s ability to attract major investments, mobilize its economic ecosystem and provide a favorable environment for both businesses and employees.
