PSA Peugeot-Citroën
A transmission factory bearing the Peugeot trademark was set up in 1961 in the middle of the Hardt forest. Why precisely did this automobile manufacturer choose the site of Mulhouse?
Alsace is located in the heart of Europe, and already at that time, possessed good means of communication as well as qualified labor. Since then, the site has been enlarged and is now amongst the largest industrial sites in France.
Within the PSA Peugeot Citroën Group, the site in Mulhouse remains an exception: it has both a final assembly plant producing cars (of which 85% are exported), and metallurgy and mechanical plants (including the only foundry in the PSA Peugeot Citroën group), where motor or transmission parts for the entire PSA Peugeot Citroën group are produced.
