Highways for fluid economic exchange

Located at the intersection of the North-South and East-West axes, Alsace is very well connected to the French, German and Swiss highway systems and consequently, to the entire European network. Highways A4, A36, A35 and the German highway A5 bring most major European metropolitan areas within easy reach from Alsace. In addition, the highways in Alsace are toll free!

Frankfurt, Luxembourg and Zurich are within 2.5 hours from Strasbourg whereas Brussels, Lyon, Milan, Munich and Paris are within a 4 hour radius from Alsace.

Compared to its area, Alsace has a density nearly twice as high as the national average with some 300km of highways. Transport by road in our region as well as nationally is the predominant flow used for transporting merchandise (94%).

This is an important economic sector with roughly 1,000 companies employing some 12,000 people to transport merchandise in Alsace by road.
