Alsace is wired!

Located on the Paris-Frankfurt axis, the world’s 3rd most important information highway, Alsace is the region in France with the highest number of website visits per inhabitant.

Alsace: an E-region

Strong political will to organize the territory initiated by the Region of Alsace established a Delegation of Public Service in February 2005 named Alsace Connexia; it has enabled excellent development of a regional high-speed network.

Since 2007, Alsace has enjoyed a 940 km long fiber optics network that uses the existing local and national networks. Thanks to this pragmatic approach, Alsace Connexia only needed to lay the last 100 kilometers of network.

More than 200 commercial zones are equipped with fiber optics and some one hundred cities are connected to this high-speed network.

In order to reduce digital inequalities still further, different means to get access to high-speed connections are used such as WiMax (a type of long-range Wi-Fi), which has 23 base stations deployed in Haut-Rhin for example.

Cost-effective Quality

To date, not less than 11 operators in Alsace serve the professional market. This high level of competition means that companies in Alsace benefit from prices equivalent to those found in large metropolitan areas.

As for TNT, Digital Land Television, it has announced the end of analogical signals… Kaysersberg, in Haut-Rhin, is one of the pilot operations implemented by the French government. “Full digital” should be standardized in Alsace by the end of 2009 (end 2011 nationwide in France).
